College CIO Named to Cisco Systems Board

Drew Hopkins, chief information officer at Thomas Edison State University, has been appointed to the Public Sector Technical Exchange Board for Cisco Systems, Inc. based in San Jose, Calif.

Members of the board are selected based on their understanding of the ways that technology impacts education or government entities and the unique perspective they bring to the group. Hopkins was selected by Cisco Systems, Inc. for his expertise in the use of information systems to promulgate distance learning for adult learners and is expected to help the company better understand the adult higher education market and its demographics.

“It comes as no surprise that Drew’s work in IT solutions and management information systems for higher education attracted the attention of Cisco Systems, Inc.,” said Michael J. Scheiring, vice president and treasurer of Thomas Edison State University. “We are proud to have him serve on their board and know he will contribute much. Drew’s leadership in distance learning and technology is well recognized.”

A resident of Pennington, N.J., Hopkins has worked for the University since 1977. He also serves on Hyland Software’s Singularity Advisory Council, the Touchnet Customer Advisory Board and the Datatel Thought Leaders Community Board.

In 2010, Cisco Systems, Inc. was ranked number 58 on the Fortune 500 list, making it the 58th largest company in the United States based on revenue. The company manufactures, sells and supports Internet protocol (IP)-based networking and other products related to the communications and information technology industry.
