College's Government Affairs Director Honored by EWNJ

Robin Walton, director of Community and Government Affairs at Thomas Edison State University, received the 2012 Salute to the Policy Makers Award by the Executive Women of New Jersey.

Robin Walton, of Burlington, N.J., director of Community and Government Affairs at Thomas Edison State University, was honored by Executive Women of New Jersey (EWNJ) with its 2012 Salute to the Policy Makers Award on May 17, 2012, at the Hyatt Regency New Brunswick.

Founded in 1980, EWNJ is where New Jersey’s executive women connect and collaborate across all sectors to share experiences, develop relationships and build their businesses. Since the organization’s founding, EWNJ has given out more than $1.1 million in scholarships to deserving New Jersey women pursuing advanced degrees.

“I am honored to be chosen to receive the EWNJ Salute to the Policy Makers Award,” said Walton. “It is a privilege to be recognized by this renowned organization for my work in community and government affairs in support of public higher education in the state of New Jersey.”

Walton serves as the first vice chair for the Board of Directors for Children’s Specialized Hospital and represents the hospital on the Board of Robert Wood Johnson Healthcare Corporation. She is a member of Greater Mercer Public Health Community Advisory Board. Walton is Thomas Edison State University’s institutional representative for the New Jersey American Council on Education Network and chair of the University’s chapter. She serves on the national Higher Education Government Relations Task Force. Walton also is on the Board for Trenton Public Education Foundation.

Since its founding, EWNJ has championed the advancement of women to the most senior levels of international corporations, nonprofits and public service firms. “At this year’s ‘Salute to the Policy Makers’ event, we will celebrate the professional accomplishments of 36 exceptional New Jersey executives,” said EWNJ President-Elect and 2012 Salute Dinner Chair Keitha M. Lackey, who also serves as a director for Horizon Blue Cross Blue Shield of New Jersey. “It is my honor and pleasure to serve as chair for this year’s gala, which serves a dual purpose: honoring an outstanding group of women and benefiting an excellent cause.”

Proceeds from the biennial event will fund EWNJ’s scholarship program, which has provided scholarships to more than 350 deserving New Jersey women enrolled in advanced degree programs at New Jersey institutions since instituting the program in 1986 as well as other programs that advance women.

Kay Koplovitz, founder of USA Networks and chairman of the Board, Liz Claiborne Inc., will serve as guest speaker for the event and New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is serving as this year’s Distinguished Honorary Dinner Chair.
