P. Henry van Zyl, DEd, vice provost of Academic Administration at Thomas Edison State University, has been selected to receive the 2014 J. O. Grantham Leadership Award for his service the National University Technology Network (NUTN), a consortium of higher education institutions that serves as a networking and professional development arena for the advancement of teaching and learning.
The Grantham award, named for the founder of NUTN, is given to a person who represents strong leadership in the field of distance learning and technology. Van Zyl, who was nominated for the award by NUTN members based on his demonstrated leadership to both the network and the field of educational technologies, will be recognized during an awards ceremony at the network's 2014 annual conference in San Antonio, Texas, in September.
“It is an honor to have been selected for this award by my peers on the Advisory Board,” said van Zyl. “The National University Technology Network members represent a widely diverse group of innovative leaders in the advancement of teaching and learning. The organization provides member institutions the opportunity for networking and collaboration to face the challenges for successful implementation of emerging educational technologies.”
Born and educated in South Africa, van Zyl earned his Doctor of Education from the University of South Africa in Pretoria, Gauteng Province, and his Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Education and Master of Education from the University of Port Elizabeth in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape Province, South Africa. He has been with Thomas Edison State University for 16 years.
