University Presents 28th National Institute on the Assessment of Adult Learning

Thomas Edison State University will be presenting the 2016 National Institute on the Assessment of Adult Learning from June 8-10 at the Sheraton Philadelphia Society Hill Hotel in Philadelphia, Pa.

The annual event provides an intensive learning experience on the best practices in prior learning assessment (PLA) for professionals in education. This year’s theme, Perspectives on PLA: Strategies for Student and Institutional Success, is meant to help us think about the multiple perspectives that are part of PLA. Understanding and synthesizing these perspectives can lead us to define “success” in new and more inclusive ways.

"The National Institute gives attendees from institutions all over the U.S. and the world the opportunity to interact with their peers at other institutions, and learn about what is working, what challenges and issues we share, and how adult learning relates to the rest of the educational field,” explained Marc Singer, vice provost, Center for the Assessment of Learning at Thomas Edison State University, and director of the National Institute.

The primary objective is to address issues in the area of adult education and assessment, while serving as a venue for networking and sharing experiences in a casual environment. It continues to be attended by experts and newcomers alike, from all over the world.

This year’s Institute features keynote presentations by nationally renowned leaders who will bring a unique perspective to those interested in adult learners:

  • Carol Ann Gittens, interim dean for the Graduate School of Education and Counseling Psychology, Santa Clara University
  • Julian Alssid, chief workforce strategist, Southern New Hampshire University

The sponsors of this year’s National Institute include Excelsior College; Insight Assessment; Educational Testing Service (ETS); Graduate! Philadelphia; StraighterLine; Collegis Education; Study.com; and SUNY Empire State College.
