Nuclear Engineering Technology with a Concentration in Radiological Protection

Equip yourself with the skills and knowledge to tackle the expanding needs of the nuclear industry. Designed to meet your needs as a working adult, the Bachelor of Science (BS) degree with an area of study in Nuclear Engineering Technology from Thomas Edison State University (TESU) provides the background you need to help take your career to the next level.

Our 120-credit program is designed for nuclear industry reactor operators and related support workers in medicine or the U.S. Navy nuclear power program who seek an enhanced understanding of radiation protection, shielding/activation, personal dosimetry and biological effects of radiation.

TESU offers working professionals like you a variety of ways to earn credit toward your degree.Turn your professional training, military experience or previous work experience from the Navy Basic Nuclear Power School, advanced Navy training, NRRPT certification, NRC licensure or professional training into credits and jumpstart your college career journey. A total of 18 Area of Study credits must be from 300/400 level courses.

The following courses are required for the BS degree with an area of study in Nuclear Energy Engineering Technology and can be fulfilled in either the General Education or Electives sections of the degree chart. 27

  • How Students Earn Credit in the Area of Study: Most students have earned credit from the Navy Basic Nuclear Power School, which covers more than half of the area of study. Credit may also be earned by advanced Navy training, Prior Learning Assessment (PLA), NRC license, NRRPT certification or ACE-reviewed company training.

Note: Courses listed in the Area of Study are offered as a guide. Other courses may also be considered appropriate for the program. The inclusion of similar courses must be reviewed by the Evaluation team. Students must submit their program plan for review to ensure that course selection is appropriate for the degree.
