Bachelor of Science in Human Services

Learn how people live and operate within society and examine how changes to existing structures and systems can benefit others with your Bachelor of Science in Human Services (BSHS) from Thomas Edison State University (TESU).
Our 120-credit online degree program prepares you for positions in social service agencies, mental health and substance abuse treatment facilities, domestic abuse shelters, community centers and more. Develop a professional tract to match your career goals and explore how you can help people in diverse populations find the stability and self-sufficiency to overcome societal challenges.
You must have at least one (1) year/1,500 hours of current work or volunteer experience in your professional track for admission to the program. Your degree will culminate with a capstone project that integrates content from across the program and validates your knowledge. Current TESU students who wish to pursue the BSHS degree must submit a recent resume at the time of application.
Upon earning your Bachelor of Science in Human Services degree, you will be able to:
- Interpret and critically analyze the research in the professional track
- Apply theory to professional practice
- Apply knowledge of the specific skills, techniques, and agencies necessary to serve client populations
- Apply knowledge of cultural diversity as it relates to the field of Human Services
- Apply theories of management as it relates to Human Services

- 6 credits in Client Populations*
- 3 credits in Research
- 6 credits in management
- 24 credits in professional track, at least 18 credits at the 300-400 level in one area of study such as:

- Community Services

- Health Services

- Fitness and Wellness
- Social Services
- 6 credit capstone course
