Degree Requirements, Sequential Course Work, and Course Repeat Policy

Degree Requirements

In the degree programs listed below, if professional credits are more than 10 years old, a Demonstration of Currency (DOC) is required:

• Bachelor of Science in Applied Science and Technology (BSAST)
• Associate in Science in Applied Science and Technology (ASAST)

For Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) degree areas of study and undergraduate business certificates, 50 percent of the courses may be older than 10 years from the most current date of application to the University and still apply toward the area of study. The remaining area of study credits must be current, completed within 10 years of the most current date of application to the University. Within the BSBA Business Core, the Business Administration Capstone course, has a currency limitation of no more than 5 years old in order to apply toward the Core requirement. If the course is older than 5 years, students are required to retake the current version of the course.

University Area of Study Upper Level Degree Policy

Require that baccalaureate students complete a minimum of 18 credits at the upper level (300 level or higher) within the area of study, which includes the Capstone course.

School of Business and Management Upper Level Degree Policy

Require that baccalaureate students complete a minimum of 18 credits at the upper level (300 level or higher). Twelve (12) upper level credits in the Area of Study and six (6) upper level credits in the Business Core which includes the Capstone course.

Sequential Course Work

With the exception of English Composition I and II, if a student has successfully completed a second course of sequential courses, he/she does not have to complete the first course. Please note that the reference to “sequential courses” means that knowledge of the second course is reliant on knowledge of the first course such as Calculus I and II. Students do, however, have to complete the minimum number of credits in each area to fulfill graduation requirements.

Course Repeat Policy

Students may repeat, without limitation, a course for the purpose of raising the course grade. Only the highest grade will be calculated in the GPA*. All grades will appear on the official transcript. Students must also adhere to any repeat policy standards established by their School or specific method of earning credit.

*ZF grades are included in the GPA and count even if the course is repeated. See Policy on Grading.

Duplication of Credit

Repeated courses will appear on the transcript marked as “repeats.” Semester hours will only be assigned in the case of repeated Thomas Edison State University courses. Repeated transfer courses or assessment credit will appear as repeats with 0 semester hours assigned.
